INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY

Biomechanical Engineering Field Internship (Unofficial)

Location: Crested Butte, Colorado
Duration: Summer Session (snowmelt → first frost)
Compensation: Competitive life experience, room for growth, occasional burritos
Credits: Transferable only to character development

Program Overview

This immersive, interdisciplinary “internship” offers hands-on experience in human biomechanics, systems management, and applied problem solving at 8,900 feet. Interns will work across three demanding but synergistic environments: early-stage human development, high-velocity food systems, and real-world structural assembly.

This is not a desk role. This is not remote. This is mountain-grade learning.

Primary Responsibilities

1. Human Biomechanics: Infant Systems Division

  • Monitor, support, and physically manage a rapidly evolving small human (aka baby brother).

  • Perform repeated lifting, carrying, and balance-correction tasks under variable load conditions.

  • Analyze sleep deprivation effects on motor coordination and decision-making.

  • Develop advanced skills in reaction time, grip strength, and emotional regulation.

2. Applied Biomechanics: Sushi Operations

  • Execute high-precision repetitive motions (knife work) under time pressure.

  • Maintain ergonomic posture during prolonged standing and dynamic service conditions.

  • Coordinate hand-eye control while operating in tight spatial constraints.

  • Collaborate within a fast-moving team environment where feedback is immediate and unforgiving.

3. Structural & Mechanical Systems: Residential Construction

  • Assist in the physical construction of a mountain home from the ground up.

  • Apply force vectors using hand tools, power tools, and brute will.

  • Translate drawings and plans into real-world assemblies.

  • Adapt to weather-driven constraints, uneven terrain, and gravity’s constant opinions.

Desired Qualifications

  • Background or interest in biomechanical, biomedical, or mechanical engineering.

  • Comfortable lifting awkward, unpredictable loads (both human and lumber-based).

  • Strong tolerance for early mornings, late nights, and “we’ll figure it out” workflows.

  • Ability to learn quickly, laugh often, and pivot when plans evaporate.

  • Skiing or snowboarding experience preferred but not required (you’ll learn).

What You’ll Gain

  • A deep, intuitive understanding of real-world biomechanics.

  • Practical exposure to fatigue, efficiency, ergonomics, and resilience.

  • Unmatched experience in multitasking across biological, culinary, and structural systems.

  • Stories that will absolutely confuse future recruiters.

  • A mountain tan and permanently improved grip strength.

Work Environment

  • Altitude: High

  • Stakes: Real

  • Dress Code: Flexible, but functional

  • Office Views: Mountains, baby monitors, sushi bar, construction site

How to Apply

Applications are accepted verbally, usually over coffee, during diaper changes, or while holding a piece of lumber. No resume required. Commitment mandatory.
